Athlone Gardai investigate alleged assault in the town

Two men aged in their 20s are currently being questioned by Gardai in Athlone as part of an investigations into an alleged assault in the town yesterday evening (Monday).

A spokesperson for Athlone Garda Station confirmed that four young men, all aged in their early 20s, were involved in an altercation in the Gleeson Street area of the town at around 7.40pm yesterday evening.

During the incident it's alleged that two of the men were assaulted.

The two men were taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries, while the other two men at the scene were arrested and brought to Athlone Garda Station for questioning.

Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have been in the Gleeson Street area of Athlone yesterday evening between the hours of 7pm and 8pm, and who may have any information about this incident, to contact them at Athlone Garda Station: 090 6492600
