Carty at full-back for Rossies as U21s are kept in reserve

By Kieran Galvin Niall Carty has shaken off his recent injury and has been named at full-back on the Roscommon team for the Connacht SFC clash against Galway at Dr. Hyde Park on Sunday (throw-in: 4pm). The Padraig Pearses player took part in some recent challenge matches and his return to fitness is a boost to the Rossies. None of the Roscommon U21 team, which was defeated by Dublin in the All-Ireland final on May 6, have been selected in the starting fifteen. There are four players from Connacht club champions St Brigid's players in the selection, with Peter Domican and Ian Kilbride in the half-back line, Karol Mannion at midfield and Senan Kilbride at corner-forward. In a familiar midfield pairing, Mannion is partnered by Michael Finneran of St Dominic's. Clann na nGael's Donie Shine has been selected at corner-forward in an exciting inside line. Sunday's game will see both Des Newton (Roscommon) and Alan Mulholland (Galway) make their managerial bows in a senior inter-county championship match. Mulholland has given championship debuts to defenders Kieran McGrath and Keith Kelly for Sunday's clash with Roscommon. Star forward Michael Meehan - who has been battling a career-threatening injury - is not in Galway's starting team, but there are hopes he will see action at some stage.
