Westmeath U-16s set to face Dubs in Gerry Reilly tournament final

The Westmeath under-16 footballers will face Dublin in the Gerry Reilly Memorial Tournament final in Millbrook, Oldcastle, this Wednesday, September 14 (throw-in 7pm). This Westmeath squad have already captured silverware this year, defeating neighbours Roscommon in the Fr Manning Cup final, and now they have their sights set on a notable double. The Lake County U-16s comprehensively defeated Dublin in the group stages of the tournament on a 1-14 to 1-2 scoreline. They also defeated Meath (5-8 to 2-13) and Louth (0-12 to 1-7). While Westmeath qualified for the final with a 100 per cent record, Dublin, Louth and Meath finished level on points which resulted in a three way play-off to see who advanved to the decider. Meath beat Louth but Dublin then overcame the Royals to set up a final clash against Westmeath. The Lake County are the holders of the Gerry Reilly Cup, having defeated Louth in last year's final. Victory against Dublin would put Westmeath on top of the roll of honour in the history of the tournament. At present, Westmeath and Meath are level on seven titles each. The Westmeath under-16s are managed by Thomas McDonnell (Coralstown/Kinnegad) and Dermot Fox (Athlone), Tom Keena (Ballynacargy) and Anthony Gorman (Killucan) are his selectors. Among the South Westmeath players on the panel are Rob Hickey (Caulry), Andrew McCormack (Rosemount), Bryan O'Donohoe (Maryland/Tang), Conor Marlowe (Maryland/Tang), Theo Watts (Rosemount), Philip Ganley (Maryland/Tang) and John Corbally (Moate All Whites).
