Tullamore set to host another All Ireland Fleadh

Almost 3,500 musicians, singers and dancers are expected to gather in Tullamore later this month in an attempt to break the world record for the most number of people playing traditional Irish music together in the one place. Last year the record was set in Tullamore as part of the 2nd Fleadh Cheoil festival, as the 'World's Largest Traditional Irish Music Session' lasted almost an hour. This year, the third year that the All-Ireland Fleadh is being held in Tullamore, is going to be the 'Session to Beat the Recession'. The inaugural event was unveiled as part of the 2007 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and has since established itself as a firm favourite with everyone over the past two years. It's just one of the dynamic events taking place as part of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2009 and takes place on Friday August 21 with the parade assembling at Lloyd Town Park at 7.30pm with the World's session attempt taking place in Market Square at approximately 8pm. The event will be preceded by the opening parade, which will assemble at Lloyd Town Park, Tullamore and travel through the streets of Tullamore until it reaches O'Connor Square. It promises to be even bigger and better than last year and is shaping up to be an event not to be missed . Everyone is welcome to attend and to bring whatever traditional instrument they wish, their singing voice or their dancing shoes to take part in the event. Spectators are also welcome to witness this phenomenal event. One of the event organisers, James Hogan, said he is delighted to see that the event is taking place again. "Everyone remembers the fantastic atmosphere that made last year's event and we are working to make it even bigger and better than that. We are inviting musicians to come to O'Connor Square, on Friday August 21, to take part in what could a little piece of history," he said. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann takes place from Sunday August 16 to August 23 and promises to be an event not to miss. For further information, visit www.fleadh2009.com
