Appeal issued over missing Athlone resident

Athlone resident Jim Doyle, who has been reported missing.

A 'missing person' appeal was issued this afternoon (Monday) in relation to an Athlone resident who has not been seen since Friday.

Jim Doyle, who lives on a barge on the River Shannon, near Athlone Boat Club, was reported missing by concerned friends.

His daughter Rebecca Doyle posted an appeal on social media urging anyone who had seen Jim to contact her or Athlone Garda Station.

"His family are extremely worried," Rebecca wrote on Facebook.

Sergeant Andrew Haran of Athlone Garda Station said it was his hope that - in light of Storm Ophelia - Jim had simply locked up the barge and gone somewhere for a few days. The fact that he hasn't been seen since Friday was a cause of concern, according to Sergeant Haran.

Athlone Garda Station can be reached at: (090) 6492600
