Roof break in to local jewellers

Thieves entered a jewellers premises in Athlone through the roof in an overnight robbery.

Gardai are investigating the break in at Park Jewellers in Golden Island Shopping Centre, which is understood to have taken place under cover of darkness last night.

Entry is believed to have been gained through the roof of the centre.

The shopping centre was closed yesterday due to the red weather warning.

The incident comes on the same day a Lidl store in Dublin was broken into after sections of the roof were dismantled using a JCB.
