Irish Water has announced that essential works will disrupt water supplies for the entire weekend in parts of Athlone's urban westside.

The works from 11am today (Friday) until 9am Monday will see disruptions to supply and low pressure in Connaught Street and surrounding areas.

Irish Water said water tankers will be available for that period at Val Beaumont's public house on Connaught Street.

It has advised people to boil water from the water tanker provided before use.
