TD's shop in Westmeath sells €1 million Lotto Plus ticket

A shop owned by Westmeath TD Willie Penrose and his wife, Anne, has sold a €1 million-winning Lotto Plus ticket.

The ticket sold in the Penrose shop in the North Westmeath village of Ballynacargy claimed the Lotto Plus One top prize in Saturday night's draw.

This was the first time the top prize has been won since the Lotto Plus game was reconfigured and the previous maximum prize of €500,000 was doubled.

Commenting on the shop's sale of the lucky ticket, Anne Penrose said: "I was shocked to get the call from the National Lottery. Our store is in the middle of the town so we have a lot of regular customers and a fair bit of passing trade.

"We have no idea who it could be, but of course it would be amazing if it was one of the locals here in Ballynacargy. There’s great excitement about the town this morning.”

This is the second major Lotto Plus success to emerge from the Penrose’s shop, which sold a winning EuroMillions Plus ticket worth €500,000 in February 2015.

The winning numbers for the Lotto Plus draw were 2, 6, 7, 16, 25, 27 and the bonus number was 19.

National Lottery CEO, Dermot Griffin encouraged everyone who had played Lotto Plus in the Ballynacargy shop to check their tickets.

He said the winner should "take care of this valuable piece of paper, sign the back of the ticket, and contact the National Lottery prize claims team on 01 836 4444. We’ll make arrangements with you to come to the Winner’s Room in Dublin and collect your prize”.

Willie Penrose (62) has been a Labour TD in Westmeath for the last 26 years but has announced that he will not seek re-election at the next general election.
