Passing of former Town Clerk who served for 28 years

The death has occurred of former Athlone Town Clerk John Walsh, The Beeches, Coosan, Athlone, and Westport, Co. Mayo.
The late Mr Walsh passed away peacefully on Sunday at St Vincent's Private Hospital, Dublin.
Predeceased by his daughter Orla, he is sadly missed by his loving wife Anne (née McManamon, Belmullet), daughters Amanda and Vanessa, son Conan (Kentstown), son-in-law Torquil, daughter-in-law Lorraine, grandchildren Rebecca, Daniel, Paul, Róisín and Mark, brothers Joe (Westport) and PJ (Ennis), sister Mary (Ferron) (Carna), in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives, former colleagues of Athlone Town Council, neighbours and many friends.
Walsh was one of the most significant figures in Athlone's history in recent decades, having served as Town Clerk for 28 years until his retirement in 2011.
A popular, affable and well-known and respected civil servant, Walsh was credited with guiding Athlone's growth and development through the latter years of the 20th century and early part of the 21st century.
His remains will repose at his residence on Tuesday from 3pm until 8pm. Requiem Mass on Wednesday January 9 at 10am in the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Coosan with burial afterwards in Coosan Cemetery.
