Charity tribute night to late Jean Dunne

On the first anniversary of the death of Athlone woman, Jean Dunne, there will be a charity tribute night in aid of two charities, South Westmeath Hospice and the LARCC centre. The night is promised to be full of brilliant entertainment for just €10. There will also be a raffle held on the night where a hand-crafted patchwork quilt made by the women of School Quilters of Athlone, of which Jean was a co-founder, will be raffled as first prize among the many prizes given by local businesses in the town. Jean had left behind her family of husband, Tony, children Emer, Kevin, Lorcan and Irene, and her grandchildren, Niamh, Rowan, Joey. Performing on the night at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, April 1st are Fiach and Jukebox Gypsies. Dublin singer-songwriter Fiach Moriarty, who is Jean's nephew, released his debut record "So I" in March 2010 to great acclaim. The album was immediately named 'Album of the Week' on RTÉ Radio 1, Ireland's national broadcaster. Fiach is currently in recording for his second record, provisionally titled 'The Last Romance', due for release in 2012. Jukebox Gypsy was originally formed as a three piece band in Liverpool in 2007. They now consist of five outstanding members, and the Irish member Bean Dolan is Jean's son-in-law. Having released three albums and having played many well-known venues and festivals in Europe, their more commonly known performances was Electric Picnic, Oxygen and The Body and Soul Festival. It has become very apparent that this is an up-and-coming band with their high energy shows and eclectic song-writing. The band enjoy mixing various styles of song-writing. Their songs range from English/American folk, Country, Bluegrass and Celtic influenced ballads. All of these songs are livened up with an amazing array of harmonies which is very rarely heard to such a fine acuity. The concert will take place in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone on April 1, at 8.30pm.
