Two-day Roscommon Races prepares for off

It’s the day when ladies dress to impress and gents prepare to be impressed.

Ladies Day is the big attraction at Roscommon’s two-day festival this coming Monday and Tuesday, July 8 and 9. First race on Monday is 5.40pm..

“Ladies day is continuing to grow in popularity at Roscommon. Great prizes, great racing and great craic on the evening,” said Michael Finneran, Racecourse Manager.

Once again Littlewoods Ireland is sponsoring the Best Dressed Lady competition. The winner will receive a €1,500 Shopping Spree with Littlewoods Ireland and the nine finalists will receive a €100 shopping voucher for Littlewoods Ireland.

Celebrity judge on the evening will be Maura Derrane, well-known TV presenter and journalist.

The feature race on Monday is the Lenebane Stakes (listed race) with €40,000 in prize money.  This race always attracts a high class entry. The first race on the card has for the past number of years produced some of Ireland’s best two-year olds. There is almost €100,000 in prize money up for grabs on Monday.

“As well as ladies day being a huge attraction in itself, the fact that we are hosting a listed race is another big plus for the meeting. As ever, we are very thankful for our sponsors who continue to show their unending loyalty and support,” noted Mr. Finneran.

On Tuesday, racing gets underway at 5.55 p.m. and racing consists of five hurdle races and two bumpers. The second race on the card is part of the West of Ireland Hurdle Series sponsored by Easy Fix Rubber Products. The final of this series will take place at Galway Racecourse in September.

Indeed when one looks at the amount of sponsors Roscommon has attracted for this two-day racing festival, it shows the great support it receives in difficult times.

For fashion, quality racing and a great atmosphere, Roscommon is the place to be next week. Patrons are advised to arrive early as large crowds are expected. Tickets for Roscommon Races can be purchased at SuperValu or on tickets.ie

Admission: Adults €13. Students/OAP’s €8. Attraction discounts on group bookings.
