Catch International Museum Day at Athlone Castle

This Sunday, May 18 Athlone Castle Visitor Centre will celebrate International Museum Day with guided tours in Polish and Italian.

The international Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the society. Each year thousands of museums around the world take part in the celebration, highlighting the importance of the role museums play in developing society.

Athlone Castle Visitor Centre is proud to be joining the International Museum Day by providing a series of guided tours in foreign languages.
The first tour of the day will be for the Polish community and will start at 1 followed by a tour in Italian at 2.30pm. No booking required, however places are limited to 25 (first come basis).

There is also 25% discount on all single admissions on the day for those who quote the International Museum Day.

Mary Bannon, Heritage Guide at Athlone Castle says: “This year’s theme for International Museum Day is Museum collections making connections. This theme reminds us that museums not only tell a story but also create a bond between visitors, generations and cultures. To celebrate this special day we want to offer 25% discount on admission to Athlone Castle Visitor Centre.”

“We would also like to give the Italian and Polish communities living in our town a chance to explore the Castle with a guided tour in their native language,” she adds.

Athlone Castle Visitor Centre is waiting for you to explore, engage and enjoy this International Museum Day.
