Wedding Bells for Trevor and Siobhan The marriage took place on Friday August 28th, 2009 at the church of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Coosan, between Trevor Nicholson, only son of Joe and Rosaleen Nicholson, Cornafulla South, Athlone and Siobhan O'Connor, youngest daughter of Kevin and Helen O'Connor, Bermingham. The bride was given away by her father, Kevin. The marriage ceremony with nuptial Mass and papal blessing was performed by Rev. Fr. Terry Loughran, Limerick (friend of the O'Connor family). The Bestman was James Carr while the Groomsman was Raymond Fallon, both friends of the groom. The bridesmaids were Sinead and Roisin O'Connor, both sisters of the bride. Junior Bridesmaids were Sarah McHugh, Ciara O'Connor, Charlotte O'Connor and Lauren O'Connor while the pageboys were Luke Nicholson and Caolan O'Connor. Readers were Fergus O'Connor, brother of the bride and Sharon Nicholson, sister of the groom. The soloist and musician was Angie Bannon. A communion reflection was read by the Groom's Nana - Teresa Fennell. A reception was held at the Shamrock Lodge Country House Hotel, Athlone and the Honeymoon is being spent in Barcelona and on a Mediterranean Cruise. The couple will reside at Coolevin Park, Athlone. Thomastown Golf Society Thomastown Golf Society members held their annual outing to Mount Bellew on Saturday last August 29th. Forty two players travelled to play in very pleasant weather conditions and a great day was had by all. The winners were Paddy O'Brien, Maura Kelly and Eileen Kelly. In second place were Tom Joe Kelly, Josephine McManus and Phil Casey while in third place were Tommy Devine, Seamus McCormack and Breege Moore. Nearest to pin was Lil Shine. The society wish to thank all involved with the organisation of the event. The Brendan Gold Memorial Cup Competition has been rescheduled to take place next weekend September 4th, 5th and 6th at Thomastown Golf Course. A big turnout of players are expected and visitors would be most welcome to come along. Clann na nGael Lotto Numbers drawn were 11,14,16 and 24. The jackpot of €4,400 was not won. The five 'match three' winners who received €40 each were Laura Reilly (Bernie Reilly), Debbie Lennon (Lennon's Fruit and Veg), Charles Dolan (Steve Collins), James Curley (James Curley) and John Cunnane (Sharon Nicholson). Local Garda Raises €10,600 for Benefit Fund Garda Mark Connell of Kilmacormack, Drum who is currently stationed at Cloghan Garda Station, Co. Offaly has succeeded through his participation in the Athlone Triathlon, in raising the sum of €10,600 for the Daniel Daly Benefit Fund. Daniel is a seven year old Cloghan boy who developed Leukaemia and as a result lost his sight. A benefit fund was set up to raise funds to assist the family in furthering research and treatment for their little boy. Mary wishes to thank everyone who supported him by way of sponsorship in the Athlone Triathlon and in turn supported seven year old Daniel. Thomastown Golf Society The Brendan Golden Memorial Cup Competition took place at Thomastown Golf Course over the weekend of September 4th, 5th and 6th. There was a great turnout of players who played in mixed weather conditions. The winners of the competition were as follows: 1st Ber Kenny; 2nd Noreen Golden; Gross Tommy Devine; 3rd Mary Sheeran; 4th Christy Ryan; 5th Maura Kelly; Front Nine Michael Shine; Back Nine Brendan Clogher; Visitors Prize Helen Clarke and Darragh Golden; Hole in One winners Michael Shine and Frances Ryan. Presentation of prizes took place in the clubhouse and a very enjoyable social evening was held by all present. The next competition on the calendar of events is the Liam Naughton Memorial Cup which will be played on the weekend of September 18th, 19th and 20th. The winter league commences on Friday October 9th and players are requested to register at the clubhouse. Presentation to Gold and Silver Jubilarians The Drum branch of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association will host their annual presentation to Gold and Silver Jubilarians in the Clann na nGael clubhouse, Johnstown on Thursday evening next September 10th with Mass at 8p.m. Everyone is welcome. Coffee Morning in Aid of Roscommon/Mayo Hospice The Annual Coffee Morning in aid of the Roscommon/Mayo Hospice Foundation will take place in Drum Community Centre on Thursday September 17th from 9a.m. to 1.30p.m. The usual great support from the community and schools would be very much appreciated.
