The scene in Moate on St Patrick's Day.

Huge crowds gather for impressive Moate parade

Congratulations to the organisers of the St Patrick's Day parade in Moate where another huge crowd turned out to honour and admire the stars of the present and the future. A varied parade with most of the community groups and clubs in the locality represented along with many commercial floats ensured that there was something to interest everyone. I am told that the parade took over an hour to pass the reviewing stand and the efficient way the various elements involved in organising everything came together is a compliment to all the volunteers involved. The bunting in the town and the decoration of the reviewing stand all added to the occasion. A particular favourite of mine was the Athlone Town Youth Marching band who looked as well as they sounded and who really livened up proceedings. Thank you also to Grand Marshal Tom Curtin for his kind comments on the Westmeath Independent coverage of Moate Matters. Winners will be announced shortly.
