A local man detained in relation to the seizure of cannabis with a street value of €52,000 in Glasson earlier this week has been released without charge.

The drugs were discovered by Athlone gardai after they stopped and searched a car in the Glasson area as part of a surveillance operation on Wednesday evening last at 6pm.

A 23-year-old man from the South Roscommon area was later arrested at the scene and brought to Athlone Garda Station where he was detained for questioning.

He was released without charge on Thursday afternoon and a file will be sent to the DPP in coming weeks.
