Boy returned to Roma family in Athlone after enquiries

A two year old child was taken from a Roma family in the Athlone area on Tuesday evening, but has since been returned to the care of his parents.
A garda spokesman said gardai took a two year old boy into the care of the HSE under their powers under the Childcare Act 1991 on Tuesday evening, October 22.
“Following enquiries the child has since been returned to the care of his parents,” the garda spokesman said.
It follows a similar case in Tallaght where a seven year old blonde girl was removed from a Roma family and put into the custody of the HSE. DNA tests are set to determine if she is the couple’s daughter.
