Man gets two life sentences for Athlone child rapes

A 30-year-old man who raped two little girls in Athlone has been sentenced to life in prison.

The man pleaded guilty to raping the nine and six-year-old girls after luring them to a flat in Athlone last September.

He appeared before the Central Criminal Court in Dublin today (Monday) and was sentenced to two life sentences

The unemployed man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, earlier admitted a total of five charges, three of raping one little girl and two of raping a second.

The man cannot be named following a court order
