UPDATE: One man still missing as rescue crews battle against fading light

One man is believed to be still missing from a boat in Lough Ree tonight.

Two men have been taken from the water in the last few hours, but search crews are still searcing for another man, reported to have been on the boat.

The incident was notified to the Lough Ree RNLI lifeboat station shortly after 3.20pm this afternoon.

Details are sketchy at this stage but early reports suggest that three men were in the boat, which capsized.

One man was discovered in the water shortly after the lifeboat's arrival at the scene between Hodson Bay and Carna, on the Roscommon side of the lake.

He was transferred to an ambulance and brought to hospital.

Another man was later found in the water -and also rushed to hospital.

No details of the condition of either of these man has yet been forthcoming.

The local RNLI lifeboat, members of Athlone Sub Aqua Club and Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club in Lanesborough as well as Gardai and a number of jetskis are on the scene.

A Coastguard helicopter which had been involved in the search has left to return to Sligo in the last few minutes.

It's believed the search for the third man may be wound up in the next half hour due to fading light and will resume at first light tomorrow.

Local reports suggest the men are not local and may have travelled to the area from Northern Ireland.
