Events cancelled as mark of respect to late Nicky McFadden

Organisers of two major events planned this week in Athlone have cancelled proceedings as a mark of respect to the family of the late Nicky McFadden.

The Athlone Marconi Heritage Group Committee, was due to host a public meeting tonight (Wednesday) in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel, at 7pm, but has decided to postpone the planned meeting which was due to take place this evening in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone at 7pm.

And the Mayor's Ball, set for Friday evening, as a fundraiser for the Opportunity in a Million initiative has also been deferred until further notice.

The current Athlone mayor is Cllr Gabrielle McFadden, sister of the late Nicky.
