FRIDAY, APRIL 25

PEOPLE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The 10th Athlone People of the Year Awards will be held at the Radisson Hotel. Compere for the evening is Dave O’Connell.

JOIN OUR BOYS
Auction fundraiser at 9pm in O’Connells, Brideswell, for Join Our Boys. All musicians are welcome on the night. Donations and auction prizes welcome. Please contact Brid O’Connell on 090 6488140.

REUNION
A reunion of former staff from Ballymahon Glothing Factory, Claffey’s, Dubtex, Balman, and Manford & Manford Direct takes place in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule at 9pm. All former staff welcome to attend.

COUNTRY MARKET
Ballinasloe indoor country market takes place every Friday morning from 9.30am to 1.30pm. Contact 087 6454206

ATHLONE GAA
Cards in the Club takes place every Friday night at 8.30pm. All are welcome and for further information contact 086 8266270.

BRIDGE IN GLASSON
Bridge has resumed on Fridays in The Fatted Calf, Glasson, at 10.30am.

SATURDAY, APRIL 26

SOPHIE SWEENEY FUNDRAISER
A benefit night for Sophie Sweeney will be held at Biddy’s Steak House at 8pm. Local band 'The Blaggards’ will provide the entertainment and the bar has organised for the house DJ to play also. Tickets are €5.

RUN ATHLONE
A 10k run in conjunction with Buccaneers Rugby and supporting Special Olympics takes place from the Bounty at 11am. Prizes for both Men’s and Women’s Top 3 competitiors. Register online for €20 at www.runireland.ie. Late application on race day €25.

COUCH TO 10K CYCLE
Lecarrow Lazers Cycling Club is running a couch to 10km cycle for anyone interested in taking up cycling from 14 years of age upwards. Meet in canal car park Lecarrow at 10.30am every Saturday morning. Contact Dermot at 086 3552969 for more.

ASK THE ARTIST
The latest session of 'Ask the Artist’ takes place in Luan Gallery from 1pm to 2pm with Tom Climent.

CLONOWN RUN

LITTLE THEATRE
Athlone Little Theatre presents Martin McDonagh’s 'The Cripple of Inishmaan’ from Sunday, April 20, to Sunday, April 27. Curtain: 8.30pm. Booking: 090 6474324.

CYCLE RALLY
Moate Vintage Society hosts their annual Family Cycle Rally at 2pm from Dun na Si, Moate.

YACHT CLUB
Lough Ree Yacht Club holds its annual Sail Spree and Junior Open Day at Lough Ree Yacht Club from 11am. Adults and children from age seven are welcome to try out different types of sailboats and have a fun day on the water. Juniors can also register for the Junior Summer Sailing Camp on the day. DO WITHOUT AND GET OUT
Do Without and Get Out in aid of Roscommon Palliative Care Unit. Come and join us on Sundays at 5pm, meeting at Cornafulla NS for a walk around the block. We ask you to donate €2 for this worthy cause.

SIX NATIONS CUP IN ATHLONE
Line out on Tuesday April 29 at the O2 Store, Athlone, from 4-6pm to lift the longed for RBS Six Nations silverware and have your picture taken.

ZUMBA
Zumba fitness classes are underway on Tuesday mornings at 10am in Tubberclair Hall. Get in shape the FUN way! Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness class so it is a workout while partying! Suitable for all fitness levels.

CASTLEDALY FTNESS CLUB
Castledaly Fitness Club has commenced every Tuesday and Friday at 6.45pm for anyone who wants to get active or enjoy the outdoors with a goal of getting as many people as possible ready to run or walk a 5K or 10K in July.

ART CLASSES
Art classes continue for beginners at Tuesday from 10.30am to 12.30 at Dean Egan Bridgeways Resource Centre, Ballymahon. Improvers classes on Wednesday 7pm to 9pm at Sisters Mercy House, Main Street, Ballymahon beside the Country Shop. Fifth and sixth classes on Tuesdays from 3pm to 4.30pm at Ballymahon primary school. Roscommon Lamb Festival kicks off Wednesday, April 30 until Monday, May 5 Plans are currently underway for family fun filled weekend.

ALL IRELAND DRAMA FESTIVAL
The RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival sees the nine top amateur drama groups in Ireland compete for the honour of being crowned All Ireland champions. It takes place in Athlone’s Dean Crowe Theatre from May 1–10.

KEITH BARRY
Due to popular demand after two sell-out shows in Athlone, Keith Barry’s tour 'Brain Hacker’ will return to The Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone on Friday, May 23 next for one extra night. Tickets from Hotel Reception and Ticketmaster.ie priced €30.
