Get your walking shoes ready for Lecarrow Run/Walk/Crawl for Cystic Fibrosis

Get your walking shoes ready for the second annual Lecarrow Run/Walk/Crawl for Cystic Fibrosis, which takes place later this month.
Following on from the huge success of last year's inaugural event, this year's fun run/walk takes place in Lecarrow on Saturday, June 21.

The event was launched in Athlone recently with Jay Boland and the Westmeath Rose Katie Murphy on hand to mark the occasion. Keith and Lorraine Reynolds, whose children Amy and Sean both have Cystic Fibrosis, organised the even last year with the help of Claire Kelly of Lecarrow Walking Club and such was the support that they decided to make it an annual event.
The run/walk/crawl offers two routes - an 8k route and a 10k route - and is open to people of all ages and abilities. It will be held at 3pm on Saturday, June 21, and registration opens at 1pm in St John’s Community Centre, Lecarrow, costing €10 per person.
Keith and Lorraine live in Glanduff and their children Amy and Sean were diagnosed with CF in 2012. Cystic Fibrosis is Ireland’s most common inherited chronic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system.
Approximately 30-40 children are born every year in Ireland with CF. The lifelong condition usually becomes more severe with age and can affect both males and females. The symptoms and severity of CF differ from person to person. The majority of people have both respiratory and digestive problems while some may only have respiratory.
The couple organised the event to not only raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, but to raise awareness of the condition.
