The 2014 triAthlone - Your Guide


The ninth TriAthlone will take place this Saturday, July 5, and up to 15,000 spectators are expected to attend the event to cheer on the 1,200 competitors.

2014 will see the return of the Vodafone Triathlon Ireland Sprint Series, alongside the Paratriathlon National Championship – which has found its home in Athlone since the hosting of a record breaking European Championships in 2010.

It promises to be an exciting spectacle, with the genuine stars of the future battling it out in the River Shannon and on the streets of the Midland’s town for national honours. Below is the timetable for events. Road closures map to follow..


SCHEDULE

Friday, July 4
18.00-20.00 Registration is open for all athletes.
19.30-20.00 Practice Swim from Athlone Boat Club

Saturday, July 5
11.00: Registration is open for all athletes.
14.00: Registration is closed for all athletes.
14.30: Race briefing at transition for all distances.
14.45: Transition is cleared.
15.00: SuperSprint Triathlon starts.
15.12: Irish Paratriathlon Championships & Relays
15.24: Sprint Female A
15.36: Sprint Female B
15.48: Sprint Male A
16.00: Sprint Male B
16.12: Sprint Male C
16.24: Sprint Male D
16.36: Sprint Male E.

EVENT DETAILS
2010 saw a records number of entries received for the competition – 4,000 participants (75% male 25% female).
In 2014 there will be over 1,200 participants. Over 15,000 spectators are expected on race site

ROAD CLOSURES
TriAthlone would like to encourage people to pre-plan shopping activities for Saturday to avoid the potential traffic disruption or alternatively access the town centre from the East side during race times on Saturday. Please note that all businesses remain open as normal.

L 2047 Old Tuam Road from Arrabawn Co-Op to New Roundabout at R 362 / L 2047 Junction.
R 362 from New Roundabout to R362 / R 363 Junction at Ballymullavill.
R 363 from Ballymullavill to Brideswell Village.
2pm - 8pm:
