Cllr obrien releases mccartney cover

Independent councillor Michael O’Brien has many interests outside the world of politics, one of which is a love of music, which he recently shared when he recorded a Paul McCartney song.

Cllr O’Brien said this week he has always had an interest in music and often sings in pubs on nights out.

“I love music, I always sang. I sang in feiseanna and always won,” he said.
A friend of his, David Mannion, who is a guitarist in a band and has a recording kit, asked him before Christmas if he would record a song. Cllr O’Brien agreed and recorded Paul McCartney’s song ‘New’, which he released on YouTube, and also a version of the Beatles favourite ‘Hey Jude’.

He said the Paul McCartney song was released on his new album last year, but not a lot of people would know the song. Cllr O’Brien shared the song on his own Facebook page and got a great reaction from people.

His musical career won’t end there though as he’s planning to record more songs.

“We’re doing two more songs in February, they won’t be Beatles or Paul McCartney,” he said. “I’d consider doing one for charity, a higher quality one, as these are only demos.”

Cllr O’Brien said the whole thing was a bit of fun and his song is now on the playlist of Athlone Community Radio.
