Athlone castle to feature on tv travel show

Athlone Castle features on top travel show 'Getaways’ on RTE 1 tonight at 7pm.

The show is in its third series and features holiday destinations with direct flights from Ireland. In each episode presenters Angela Scanlon and Joe Lindsay visit a foreign destination and also take a short getaway to an Irish town. This Thursday’s local Short Breaks segment about Athlone is paired up with Majorca.

Joe Lindsay, who when not off on his travels, is a Belfast-based TV and radio presenter and broadcaster, explores in this episode Athlone Castle Visitor Centre. He learns all about the famous Siege of Athlone and has a bit of fun trying the giant arch and strolling around the outside and admiring the amazing views.

The Athlone episode of Getaways will be screened on RTE 1 on Thursday, January 29, and repeated on BBC 1 NI at Monday, February 2 at 7.30pm
