Seamus Killoran in action for Roscommon

Video roscommon football star narrowly avoided tragic farm accident

A former Roscommon county footballer has revealed that his eldest son was almost the victim of a tragic accident on the farm when the boy was just three years old.

Seamus Killoran, a dairy farmer from Elphin who was on his county's Connacht championship winning team of 1990, recorded a two-minute YouTube video as part of his role as Roscommon’s first FBD Farm Safety Champion for Change.

In the clip, Seamus recalls getting 'a severe fright' when his eldest son was just three years old.

'(The child) wandered out while I was feeding the cattle and he nearly got caught with the wheel of the tractor against a wall,' Seamus says.

'I couldn't see him, with the height of the wheel of the tractor, and lucky enough I happened to stop at the right time. Only for that it could have been a fatality.'
