INTERNET SAFETY EVENT
Foróige in South Roscommon is hosting a Community Awareness Social Media and Internet Safety Event on Friday, April 17, at 8pm in Moore Hall, Ballydangan. All welcome. The keynote speaker is Senator Lorraine Higgins who will give a presentation on her cyber experiences. Local TD Denis Naughten will also speak at the event.

FÉILE CEOIL
The 50th annual Féile Ceoil na Scoileanna takes place in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone from April 20 to 23 inclusive. The event, featuring performances by school children from the town and across the Midlands, will be opened by local singing legend Brendan Shine and his daughter, Emily.

PILATES

FOOD BUSINESS SEMINAR
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is organising a seminar for small food business start-up companies which is taking place in Athlone’s Hodson Bay Hotel on Tuesday from 8.20am (registration from 8am) to 1pm. The seminar is described as “a one-stop shop for anyone who is thinking about starting a small food business and/or who has recently gone into business in the food sector.” The free half-day event will include talks on issues including food safety training requirements, labelling regulations, how to register a food business and what to expect from an inspection. The All-Ireland Drama Festival is pencilled in to run from April 30 to May 8 nightly at 8pm. Tickets go on sale at theatre box office from Thursday, April 9.

HOCKEY 5-A-SIDE
Athlone Hockey Club are hosting an open Ladies, Mens and Mixed 5 a-side competition on May 2 and 3 next starting at 9am Saturday morning with finals starting at 10am on the Sunday. Any level can enter. Entry Fee of €175 for squad of 7 also covers the entry to the BBQ and music on Saturday night in the Bounty. DARKNESS INTO LIGHT
The annual ‘Darkness into Light’ 5k walk/run will take place at 4.15am on Saturday morning, May 9. It takes place from the Athlone Town FC stadium and all proceeds raised will go to support the suicide and self-harm charity Pieta House.  

WESTMEATH STYLE AWARDS
The inaugural Westmeath Style Awards, in association with Specsavers, is the hottest ticket of the summer. The Gala Awards Night will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone on Friday, May 15.
