Odds on a 2015 general election narrow due to siteserv controversy

The chances of a General Election being called in 2015 are on the increase, if a bookmaker's odds are anything to go by.

With the Government under pressure over IBRC’s sale of Siteserv to the Denis O’Brien-controlled company Millington, BoyleSports said there had been 'a surge of bets' on a general election being called before the year is out.

Initially priced at 10/1, it is now 6/1 that there will be an Irish general election before the end of 2015.

It’s 8/15 that the current Taoiseach Enda Kenny will remain Taoiseach after the next general election, while it’s 11/8 that any other person will be voted in as Taoiseach after the next general election.

Liam Glynn of BoyleSports said “With the Siteserv controversy causing a massive stir in the past 48 hours, we have seen a surge of support for there to be a General Election before the end of 2015. Three hefty bets were already placed at 10/1 on Friday morning and our traders believe that the worst is yet to come and have clipped the price into 6/1.”

He added “The question now has to be asked whether Enda Kenny will remain as Taoiseach after the next General Election and it’s currently 11/8 that we will have a new Taoiseach after the next general election.”
