Strong reason to believe athlone couple victims of terror attack

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it has “strong reason to believe” that two more Irish people have lost their lives in a terror attack in Tunisia
It’s understood the department’s concerns focus on a husband and wife, in their 50s, from Athlone.

The shocking news has stunned the town of Athlone today.

The Department would give no details of the people concerned but said “a formal identification process has been ongoing” and the family has been notified. The Irish ambassador and consul are in Tunisia working with the authorities there.

Earlier today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan said there was “grave concern” for two additional Irish citizens who had been at the scene of the attack
Already, a Meath woman Lorna Carty from Robinstown was confirmed a fatality following the attack, linked to terror group ISIS, at the beach resort in Sousse on Friday.
