Monksland to bid farewell to local cleric

An Monksland-based priest has been appointed the new parish priest in Tarmonbarry, Co Roscommon.


Fr Jaroslaw Maszkiewicz, a curate in Parish of Ss. Peter & Paul for several years now, takes over the reins from Fr Eamonn O’Connor, the current parish priest who moves the short distance to nearby Strokestown as PP on foot of the latest raft of diocesan appointments, announced on Monday by Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran.


Known as Fr Jarek, pronounced Yarek, the popular cleric has been based in Ashford, Monksland since late 2013 where he replaced Fr John McManus.
Fr Jarek is a priest of the Diocese of Warsaw in Poland and has been in Ireland since 2005.


In other changes, former Bishop of Elphin, Most Rev Christopher Jones, Bishop Emeritus becomes Chaplain of Nazareth House Sligo.
The latest clerical changes take effect from July 31 next.
