Man hospitalised after local crash

A man in his 60s was taken to hospital today after he lost control of a car on the motorway and ended up in a drain.

The single car accident occurred between Junction 6 Moate West and Junction 7 Moate East westbound, along the M6 Galway to Dublin motorway, around 3.30pm this afternoon.

Emergency services attended the scene and the man was later taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, with what gardai described as non-life threatening injuries.

It’s believed he may have suffered several broken bones in the incident.
There were no road closures as a result of the accident and the scene along the hard shoulder was cleared a short time later.

Gardai are investigating the circumstances of Monday’s motorway crash, any witnesses to Athlone or Moate Garda Stations 090 6498550 or 090 6485106.
