Padraig Moran to be honoured in Croke Park on Monday

This Monday in Croke Park will be an evening of mixed emotions for the Tubber community and surrounding areas as the local GAA club in conjunction with Mountjoy Gardai, honour the late Padraig Moran.

Emotions of sadness in remembering the departure from this life of a kind, loving and caring man who left a mark on so many people who had the pleasure of knowing Padraig. Emotions of joy in having the opportunity to travel to Croke Park to watch his workplace colleagues play a memorial match against his beloved club, Tubber.

His footballing ability and manner took him from his early days schools football through to playing at the highest level at county wearing the green white and gold for Offaly.

As one of Tubber’s leaders, Padraig went on to play a major role in the 1986 Junior winning side, Intermediate champions of 1988 and the Senior B title in 1989, while also winning a Junior B hurling championship final.
The highlight of Padraig’s career came in 1988 where he was corner back on the Offaly Under 21 All Ireland winning team.

In 1993, he married Fiona Egan from Belmont,  built his new home in Castleknock looking out  towards St Brigid’s GAA club. It wasn’t long before the Brigids club got Padraig on board and eventually his children Alana, Brian and Aoibhinn would become key playing members with their dad playing an active role as coach and mentor. Brian will play a part for both sides in this upcoming game in Croke Park.

On Monday next, players and supporters buses will depart from Tubber to enjoy a great sporting spectacle where Padraig’s home club have the opportunity to play this historic game in the GAA’s field of dreams.
