Kevin McStay

McStay will have to be formally nominated for Roscommon manager's job

The Roscommon GAA managerial saga took another twist last night (Wednesday) when a nomination process was announced for the position of county team manager.

On Tuesday Fergal O'Donnell, who had been joint-manager of the senior side this year along with Kevin McStay, announced that he was resigning from his role.

A brief statement issued by Roscommon GAA public relations officer Hugh Lynn last night stated that the position of county team manager would be filled through an open competition.

This means McStay will have to go through the nomination process - and may have to be interviewed - if he is to be ratified as the sole manager of the team.

The statement issued last night read: 'Following on from the resignation of Fergal O Donnell from the position of joint manager of the Roscommon Senior Football team, the Roscommon GAA County Management Committee has agreed to open the position of County Team Manager to an open competition.'

A closing date of Wednesday, September 21, at 5pm, has been fixed for nominations and Mr Lynn said it was 'the norm in Roscommon' for managerial candidates to be nominated by clubs.
