The late Eamonn O'Donohoe

Funeral of Lough Ree tragedy victim taking place today

The funeral of Eamonn O'Donohoe, the father-of-three who died after a tragic accident on Lough Ree last weekend, is taking place today (Thursday).

The 46-year-old Curramore, Kiltoom, resident was kayaking on the lake when the accident occurred on Saturday morning.

He was recovered from the water at approximately 1.40pm, following a search involving the Lough Ree RNLI lifeboat and the coast guard helicopter, but was later pronounced dead at Portiuncula Hospital.

Memy tributes have been paid to the deceased in recent days, describing him as a 'family man' and a 'passionate canoeist'.

He is survived by his heartbroken wife Sharon and children Sarah, Alex and Lucy, mother in law Kay Ryan, brother in law Martin and his wife Maria, sister in law Carmella, nephews Liam and Rory, friends, work colleages and friends in the kayaking community.

The funeral Mass is taking place in the Church of the Risen Christ, Ballybay, at 11am this morning, with burial afterwards in Kiltoom Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
