Taps will be off for three nights.

THREE NIGHTS of water shutoffs coming down the track

There will be overnight water cuts off across the east side and centre of Athlone for three successive nights next week, it has emerged.

Irish Water has indicated that essential maintenance works are being carried out on the Athlone Water Treatment Plant.

This will result in planned water outages from 8pm, Monday to 8am Tuesday, 8pm Tuesday to 8am Wednesday and 8pm Wednesday to 8am Thursday.

The areas affected will include Athlone town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, and surrounding areas.

Irish Water says the nighttime restrictions are being put in place to ensure a water supply to homes and businesses during daytime hours.

The statement said that water supply will restore as the network refills. However, it can take a number of hours for the water to restore to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network once the water supply is turned back on.

Irish Water said: “We are asking customers to conserve water for the foreseeable future due to increased demand and reducing water levels in the Annagh Reservoir. The current dry spell and increased seasonal demand are contributing to the reduced available supply of treated drinking water. In an effort to minimise potential interruptions, customers are being asked to conserve water by refraining from watering gardens, washing cars, using power hoses and minimising their use generally.”

To help conserve water customers are being asked to report any leaks they see on the public network and to repair any private side leaks in their homes and businesses to help restore water levels in the network.

Customers can report any public side leaks online at www.water.ie or by calling the customer care helpline 24/7 on 1850 278 278.
