All systems go for Roscommon races

With two days racing, including a listed race and Littlewoods Ireland Ladies Day, Roscommon is the place to be this coming Monday and Tuesday, July 7 and 8. The first race on Monday is 6pm.

“Ladies Day is continuing to grow in popularity at Roscommon. There are great prizes, great racing and there’s sure to be great craic on the evening,” said Michael Finneran, Racecourse Manager. The stakes will be high on the course and are expected to be just as high among the competitors for the title of Best Dressed.

Celebrity judge for Ladies Day on Monday is Pippa O’Connor Ormond, well known model and TV personality. She will be casting her eye over the contenders for the winning prize of a €1,500 shopping spree with Littlewoods Ireland with the other nine finalists receiving a €100 Littlewoods Ireland voucher.

While there’s expected to be plenty of style and glamour, with a listed race on the card for Monday, punters can look forward to seeing a high class field for the Lenebane Stakes, which has €40,000 in prize money. In total, there is over €100,000 in prize money on Monday with sponsors on the evening including EBF, Property Earley Auctioneers, I.T.B.A., SuperValu, Roscommon Herald and Lynch Flooring.

Tuesday’s meeting gets underway at 5.50pm with five hurdle and two bumper races down for decision. Easyfix Rubber Products, White Transport, The Dolan Family, Martinstown Stud and Keshia Casey (Glamorous Dogs), Fuerty are the sponsors.

“Once again I’d like to thank sincerely all the sponsors who are supporting Roscommon Races. Their generosity and support is something the committee always appreciate,” said Michael Finneran.

With this being the last race meeting before the Galway Festival, punters may be given a few pointers for the week-long meeting at Ballybrit.

Patrons are advised to arrive early and to keep an eye on the starting times for both evenings, especially Tuesday, as there may be a race divide, which would mean the first race starting a half an hour earlier. Tickets for Roscommon Races can be purchased through www.roscommonracecourse.ie
