Philly Gorman, the Athlone striker, is an injury doubt for tonight's hosting of Wexford Youths.

Unbeaten tabletoppers go in search of another win

AFTER two notable victories on the road for Athlone Town in recent weeks, the early season First Division leaders return to Lissywollen tonight (Friday) for their fifth game in the season.

They take on fourth placed Wexford Youths in Lissywollen (7.45pm), hoping to build on the recent away wins against UCD and Shelbourne.

Manager Eddie Wallace is likely to be without defender Brian Shortall, who has yet to feature this season because of injury, but midfielder Thomas Mulroney could return after missing the Shelbourne match.

The injured duo of Michael Brown and Aidan Friel are likely to miss out but Wallace is hopeful a calf injury sustained by stand-in captain Stephen Quigley in last Friday’s win at Shelbourne will not keep him sidelined for the visit of Shane Keegan’s Youths.

There is also a slight doubt about Philly Gorman ahead of tonight’s game after he picked up a knock against Shelbourne, Wallace told the Westmeath Independent.
