Another Midlands derby as Athlone and Longford pitted in EA Sports Cup

Athlone Town have been drawn at home to Longford Town in the first round of the EA Sports Cup.

The tie is fixed for Monday, March 10, at 7.45pm

The tie will provide local fans with the first glimpse of the side in competitive home action as it comes between the league opener away to Sligo Rovers and the first league match in Lissywoollen, against Shamrock Rovers.

Meanwhile, a planned Leinster Senior Cup game tonight away to Wexford Youths has been postponed due to weather conditions.

In other club news, underage player Aaron O'Neill scored for a home-based Irish Under 17 squad against Shelbourne Under 19s last night.

It's O'Neill's third game in a green shirt and the former Temple Villa youngster who joined Athlone Under 17s at the start of the season marked the occasion with a goal in the second half.
