Tullamore Show cancelled for second successive year

Sunday's Tullamore Show was called off at the eleventh hour on Saaturday evening following heavy downpours. It's the second year in a row that the event, Ireland's largest one-day show, which was expected to attract up to 50,000 visitors was called off. The decision to call off the event was made due to concerns at the likely difficulty for show participants in bringing animals to and from the event due to the wet underfoot conditions. Showgoers arriving by car would also have faced difficulty in negotiating car parks. It's a massive blow to the organisers who had faced a similar setback last year. Taoiseach Brian Cowen was to have opened the show
