Moate worker to host local charity golf classic
Linda Kelly is a Clonfanlough native who is currently working in Londis in Moate. Linda and her brother Kevin are organizing a golf classic in Mount Temple Golf Club on Sunday September 14 as part of their effort for the Crumlin Children"s Hospital. Linda has agreed to take part in the Capetown, South Africa, 100K Walking Challenge in October for the hospital and must raise a minimum of at least €5,500 for the Children"s Medical and Research Foundation. In 1965, the hospital board founded the Children"s Research Centre (known then as the Society for the Promotion of Research). The organisation began as a small and mainly voluntary operation, with the specific task of raising funds for medical research in Our Lady"s. The Foundation is proud of its long history of improving medical research and medical care for children in Ireland through Our Lady"s Hospital and the Children"s Research Centre. Voluntary contributions form an essential part of the finance needed to continue the work of the Foundation and volunteers like Linda are crucial to the ongoing medical research that takes place. Anyone who has ever visited the Crumlin Children"s Hospital is aware of the special atmosphere that exists in that facility with a warmth that is essential to the well being and recovery of the patients. It is one of the institutions in this country that can keep coming back for more and still enjoy the support of the general population. Linda and Kevin have organised a great day out for people to enjoy while at the same time raising much needed funds for the foundation. A team of four people costs €160, less than the green fee at most clubs in this country and that entry fee also includes food on the day. If you cannot take part in the golf please consider sponsoring a tee, a green, a flag or just make a contribution to this great cause.
