Local groups to tread the boards in Tuar Ard
The local drama groups around the Moate area have been producing fine drama and theatre for years, with memorable performances that have both excited and entertained large audiences. This November will prove to be no different when Tuar Ard opens its doors to Tubber, Mount Temple and Moate Drama Groups. Indeed, November is shaping up to be an exciting month for all drama lovers with Tubber Drama Group"s production of Not Now Darling by Ray Cooney, Mount Temple Drama Group"s production of John B Keane"s Big Maggie and a production of Red Roses and Petrol by Joseph O"Connor from Moate Drama Group. Tubber Drama Group performs at Tuar Ard until Saturday next, November 8. Not Now Darling, directed by Jackie Madden, is a play set in an elegant west-end fur salon where the hilarious permutations and entanglements reach a point of hysteria, before everyone gets their just deserts. Not Now Darling is a truly uproarious farce about the consequences of attempted infidelity. Wednesday, November 19, to Sunday, November 23, sees Mount Temple Drama Group at Tuar Ard with their production of Big Maggie. Set in rural Ireland in the early 60"s, Big Maggie Polpin has just buried her husband and sets about laying down some rules for her grown-up children. All does not go to plan, however, and like most Irish families there is a rebellion in the camp. Vincent Lowry directs this production of Big Maggie. Moate Drama Group performs Red Roses And Petrol, directed by Veronica Edwards, at Tuar Ard from Thursday, 27, to Sunday, 30. In the play, Moya is preparing for the funeral mass of her husband, Enda. From England and America, her children are returning for the occasion, but as the ghosts of the Doyle family"s past begin to materialise, the consequences are both profoundly disturbing and memorably comic. There is no doubt that all three productions will live up to the high standard that has been seen from these local drama groups in the past. Indeed, as the weather gets colder and the evenings grow darker, there is no better way to enjoy these November nights. Show time for Not Now Darling and Big Maggie is 8.30pm sharp, while show time for Red Roses and Petrol is 8pm sharp. Booking for all three productions can be done by contacting Tuar Ard at 090 6482042. Ticket prices for each production are €10-€8. Book now to avoid disappointment.
