Late Supt. Peadar Kearney

Widespread regret has been caused in the Ballinasloe region by the sudden death of Supt. Peadar Kearney at the age of 46 years. Supt. Kearney was a native of Athlone town and had served in the senior garda post in Ballinasloe for the past two years. Prior to that he had been stationed in Ballinasloe as a Garda Inspector. The deceased lived at Creggan, Cornafulla, and over the years took a keen interest in sport. While in Ballinasloe the late Supt. Kearney helped out many of the communit- based organisations including the Fair and Festival Committee and the St. Patrick"s Day Parade Committee. There was a large and representative attendance present at the con-celebrated Funeral Mass which took place at St. Peter"s Church in Athlone and burial was in Drum Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Carmel (nee Murray), sons Eoghan and David, daughter Aoife, brothers, sisters, other relatives and a wide circle of friends to whom sincere sympathy is offered. Open Market Arrangements have been made to hold an open market with the unusual title of An Doiltéir at Gullanes Hotel, Main Street, Ballinasloe, on Sunday next March 29th. Infoline: 1890 474 474 Talent Competition The very progressive members of Ballinasloe Lions Club will stage their Annual Teen Star Competition at Ballinasloe Town Hall Theatre in early April. The first round of the event will be on Tuesday April 7 and Wednesday April 8. Tthe grand final will take place on Friday night April 9. The overall winner will receive the Andrew Staunton Memorial Trophy. Again this year this very popular competition is being co-ordinated by Paul Spencer. Entry forms can be had from the local schools. Ballinasloe Show The very active members of Ballinasloe Show Company recently ran off their Annual Race Night at the Pillar House Lounge in Society Street. A grand total of 26 races took place on this most successful occasion and a prize fund of over €2,000 was on offer. Again in 2009 this event turned out to be a most enjoyable night out. The Show"s Chairman, Fr. Christy McCormack, has offered thanks to everybody who supported the fundraiser. Congratulations Mary Heartiest congratulations are offered to Mary Mitchell, Raheens, Menlough, Ballinasloe, who recently was conferred with an Honours Bachelor of Nursing Science Degree in Intellectual Disabilities at Trinity College in Dublin. She is daughter of Jimmy and Mrs. Teresa Mitchell. Her many friends in the North Galway town were delighted with Mary"s achievement. Traffic Delayed Motorists in the Ballinasloe area this week experienced long delays due to major road works. The road works concerned were on the Ballinasloe to Athlone main road and the Ballinasloe to Shannonbridge road.
