Golf classic to raise funds for St Hilda"s

A golf classic in aid of St Hilda"s is to help raise funds for a new high-support respite house in Coosan. The classic was launched last week in Athlone Golf Club with Deputy Mary O"Rourke, Deputy Denis Naughten and Senator Nicky McFadden driving down the fairway in support of St. Hilda"s Services. On behalf of Athlone Golf Club, Club Captain Willie Owens welcomed St. Hilda"s Golf Classic and looked forward to a busy and successful day providing sporting enjoyment for members, visitors and guests. Mary Meares, Chairperson, St. Hilda"s Services thanked all present for their continued support and acknowledged the work of the organising committee. Recalling the last Golf Classic in 2006, she is looking forward to another enjoyable and successful day on 5th June. The Golf Classic will assist the current development programme which included the building and fitting out of a High Support Respite House in Coosan. The total cost of the project is €1.13m. To date organisers have secured €788,000 of statutory funding and €228,000 of fundraising resources. It is hoped that the balance of €115,000 will be resourced from voluntary funding in 2009 and 2010. The Golf Classic is an integral event within this fundraising calendar. Athlone Golf Club hosts St. Hilda"s Services Golf Classic on Friday, June 5th.
