Molloy books place in national boxing final
Moate"s Gary Molloy is bidding for further national glory this weekend, when he competes in the final of the National Youth Boxing Championships. Molloy, from Mount Carmel Drive, Moate, is set to face Antrim"s Sean McComb in the big decider at the National Stadium, Dublin, on Friday night. The 17-year-old sealed a place in the 51kg final courtesy of a healthy 9-4 victory over Jamie Long (Sunnyside Boxing Club) last weekend. Representing Moate Boxing Club, Molloy will be looking to add to his three previous All-Ireland titles, which include a gold medal at last November"s National Under-21 Boxing Championships. Molloy"s progress to the final of the National Youth Championships comes hot on the heels of a fantastic gold medal victory for fellow Moate native Joe Ward at the prestigious President"s Cup in Baku , Azerbaijan, last week. Ward"s recent successes have also earned him a place on the Ireland squad which travels to the AIBA World Junior Championships in Armenia this weekend. Ward has also been selected to captain the Irish squad in Armenia.
