A number of local primary schools last week participated in a performance by the Midland National Children"s Choir in Athlone Institute of Technology. Ballybay NS, Cloonakilla NS, Cornafulla NS, Cornamaddy NS, Drumraney NS, Scoil na gCeithre Maistri, St Ciaran"s NS, St Peter"s NS and Fohenagh NS in Ahascragh participated in last Wednesday night"s performance at AIT. The participation of local schools in the National Children"s Choir was sponsored by the Athlone Education Centre and centre director Frank Walsh said: 'The concert is a wonderful opportunity for the young people from our area and Athlone Education Centre is proud to sponsor this great event. We congratulate everybody associated with this concert and wish them every success in the future.' Over the course of the school year the children learned a repertoire of 20 songs, which varied from Schubert to Andrew Lloyd Webber. The children and their teachers were commended by local organiser Anita Ní Chonchúir on rising to the challenge and on achieving a standard of excellence which has become synonymous with the National Children"s Choir. She said: 'Without the collaboration of the many people who gave generously of their personal time, talents and resources a venture of this magnitude could not have been undertaken. Credit for the success of the choir must go to the pupils and their teachers for their whole-hearted commitment and to the parents who provided encouragement.'
