Give your crowning glory the royal treatment!
For many women who want to look and feel a million dollars, a new outfit or sky-scraper heels won't do. The only thing to give them that feel-good factor, heaps of confidence and a swing in their step, is to walk out of a hair salon with a new hairdo. I achieved that million dollar feel after a deep, intensive conditioning treatment and blow-dry at MOHH hair salon in Arcadia Retail Park (beside Applegreen petrol station) last week. The Joico K-Pak Treatment, exclusive to MOHH in Athlone, is described as the 'Rolls Royce' of hair treatments. It's all about intensive rehydration and the products treat all the components of your hair, not just what's on the outside. The K-Pak luxury treatment lasts about 20 minutes and is the most relaxing thing you could do in a hairdressers, as it involves a fabulous head massage as well as the nourishing pampering of your crowing glory! What strikes you first about the new MOHH salon is how big, bright and airy it is. It's divided into two sections, one is the hairdressing salon itself, the other section is where the academy training is carried out. There is also a private room for brides or people who want to get a wig. The decor is funky and modern, there's so much space and lots of workstations and it looks like something from a magazine. Stylist Emma Kelly greeted me and took me over to a chair. She explained what the treatment involved and then asked me what kind of a blowdry I'd prefer afterwards. She checked my hair and deemed it to be in good condition, but said that curly-haired girls will always have to get a bit more moisture into their locks compared to those with straight hair. A second stylist, Samuel Radnai, who's a recent addition to the staff of MOHH, carried out the treatment. And what followed was almost an hour of complete hair transformation, as my frizzy curls morphed into a shakeable mane of healthy, glossy long locks! This treatment is carried out in four steps. It's like a facial for your hair, with intense cleansing, rehydration and nutrition aimed to make your hair as healthy as your skin. Samuel shampooed, massaged, rinsed, massaged again and applied four different products. First was the Chelating Shampoo, a triple action shampoo which cleans the hair, removes mineral deposit and styling product build up, and also moisturised. Samuel shampooed twice, making sure my hair was squeaky clean and ready to soak up the benefits of the next treatments. Next up was the Cuticle Sealer. Cuticles overlap each other to form a protective layer over the inner structure of the hair. But through styling, colour and dehydration the cuticles lift up and can no longer adequately seal in moisture or protect the hair from further damage, making the hair look dull. This sealer, a double-action acidifier, smooths and tightens the cuticle, while locking in curl and colour and also reduces 'hair swelling' caused by chemical services. Samuel massaged this into my hair, which he left to work its magic for five minutes, while a hot towel wrapped snugly helped the sealer work better. After this was rinsed out, it was time for the Deep Penetrating Reconstructant which Samuel also massaged slowly into my head. This is an intensive protein reconstructor which improves and rebuilds the hair structure. This again was left in for five minutes, again with a hot towel wrapped around my head, and was then rinsed out. Lastly, Samuel used the Intense Hydrator to restore moisture, seal the cuticle and makes your hair really shiny. Finally, to top it all off, Samuel blow-dried my hair straight, giving it lots of volume and bounce. Afterwards, my hair was full of life and really healthy-looking. It was bouncy, shiny, silky and more vibrant after the Joico treatment compared to anything else I've had done before to my hair. In fact, my hair was so glossy, it actually looked like I'd just had a new colour put in! My hair felt completely transformed - defiantly a million-dollar feel! The Joico treatment is suitable for anyone who may love their GHD a little too much, people with curly hair which is naturally drier than straight hair, older people who lose moisture in their hair through the ageing process and also anyone whose hair needs a bit of a moisture boost because of too much colour use or too much time spent in the sun and sea while on holidays.
