Mount Temple/Baylin Toddler Group Are you a parent or carer of a small child? Would you enjoy meeting up with others in the same situation and give the tiny tots a chance to play. If there is enough interest in the area, a parent/toddler group will meet up each week in Mount Temple Community Hall. Where similar groups are up and running a parent or carer brings their toddlers along and the children play with the toys/equipment available and interact with each other. While the adults supervise they get a chance to meet up with others for a chat and tea/coffee. The sessions might finish with some songs and rhymes and a tidy up. Each meeting lasts about 1 to 1 ½ hours. On Monday, September 28, at 8.30pm an information night will be held in Mount Temple Hall. Martina Boyce from the Westmeath Community Childcare Committee will speak and a good attendance is important if the group is to go ahead. The day and time of the morning sessions for the parent/toddler group will be finalised at this meeting. For further enquiries you can ring Brid on 087 2381283 or Michelle 086 1284103 or just come along on the night. The popular children's writer of the Johnny Coffin Diaries appeared in the old Moate library some years back as part of the children's Book Festival. This year, the multi-talented Sexton will teach an informal and fun poetry workshop.  Tommy Fleming in Tuar Árd One of the highlights of the annual programme at Tuar Árd takes place this Friday night when Sligo crooner Tommy Fleming makes a welcome return to the venue. I recall hearing him in Tuar Árd in 2004 and thinking at that time that Tommy could perform without amplification and fill the auditorium with his wonderful voice. Tommy gave us a very informal show that night, chatting with the audience and inviting requests from those present. Following the show he was a pure gent, signing autographs, posing with the fans and generally being a very pleasant and appreciative performer. Tommy will be missing his number one fan in Moate as she is away this weekend so it will be up to the rest of us to help generate the atmosphere that brings the best from a top performer. Further details from Tuar Árd on 090 6482042. Temple Villa Blitz An U8 blitz for boys and girls will take place on Saturday September 26 at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre from 4pm to 6pm. There will be games, coaching, and fun for all. Qualified coaches will be in attendance. Registration will take place for the Athlone & District Schoolboy/Girls league. New players are very welcome.
