Kiltoom group to perform 'A Night In November'

Kiltoom Drama Group has a proud history of entertaining audiences for many years. The group's next production is Marie Jones' "A Night In November". This wonderful play which has taken the theatrical world by storm since 1998 is sure to do just that in Ballybay Parish Hall from Thursday, November 12 to Sunday, November 15, admission €10. This exciting, ambitious, challenging and, at times hilarious, play maintains the high standards set by Kiltoom Players over the years. Set in East Belfast in 1993 at the time of Ireland's quest (both Northern and the Republic) for a place in the 1994 World Cup finals in the USA, the events of the play cause a catastrophic clash of everything that the central character, Kenneth McCallister holds dear. Brutally confronted by a midlife crises that possesses all of the threatening horror of a double-barrelled shotgun at point-blank range, Kenneth both literally and metaphorically embarks on a roller-coaster journey. His personal sense of identity, as a Northern Ireland Protestant, is demolished as he travels "to infinity and beyond" with gusto and passion that takes both the audience and himself by storm! Dramatically the world he has known is shattered: he witnesses his in-laws becoming outlaws before his very eyes; his position in work and society are challenged; his social aspirations and his relationship with his fellow Irish men are brought into question with the result that he no longer knows himself or the world he has so mindlessly inhabited all his life. Sole cast member, Ollie Hegarty will provide dramatic and energetic performance covering a range of characters, under the direction of Fidelma Nixon. Don't miss this electrifying portrayal of the complex pressures and demands that modern society places on so many. Come along with a friend and have a great night out in November.
