Cake sale for charity building group

A coffee morning and cake sale to raise money for Bealnamulla woman Michelle Keane's upcoming trip to Bangladesh will be held this Saturday morning. The event will help raise funds for Michelle, from Forest Mill, Bealnamulla, who will be travelling to Bangladesh in May as part of a 24-strong group of volunteers from NUI Galway who will participate in the Habitat for Humanity Building Blitz. Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, nondenominational Christian housing organisation which builds simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter. Speaking to the Westmeath Independent about her trip, Michelle said: "It's always something I wanted to do, but I never got a chance up to this. I heard about it through friends." Prior to travelling Michelle, who is a corporate law student at NUIG, has to raise €3,000 for the charity, which promotes the house building project in association with the native Bangladeshi population, rather than a pure charity initiative, with all of the work done in teams with locals. Saturday's coffee morning and cake sale takes place in The Left Bank Mall, Pearse Street, at 11am.
