Council to resurface Moate's main streets

The long-awaited road resurfacing works for the town of Moate are due to begin this month, according to local councillor Tom Allen. The Fianna Fáil councillor welcomed the commencement of works, which were badly needed after heavy traffic damaged the road surface, especially on Main Street, during the construction of the M6 two years ago. "The funding is now available," Cllr Allen confirmed, welcoming the works. "It's been seven or eight years since decent money was spent on the town, but I want to compliment the council on the work. It will also be welcomed by locals and business people and I would urge people to co-operate with the work over the next few weeks. It will be a little bit of pain but for a lot of gain." In recent years, there has been a storm of criticism over the condition of the main streets in Moate, in the wake of the construction of the by-pass. Despite promises by Westmeath County Council that funding would be provided by the National Roads Authority to resurface the roads, that failed to materialise. Westmeath County Council has also recently carried out road resurfacing works on the Baylin, Castledaly roads and also in the Mount temple area. Cllr Allen thanked the council for the great work done on these roads.
