Plans for Porlick amenity development

The Portlick lakeside area could receive a tourist-friendly revamp if a proposed public amenity improvement plan gets the go ahead. Three Westmeath County Councillors - Mark Cooney (FG), Frankie Keena (FF) and Kevin 'Boxer' Moran (Ind) - were nominated as members of a new Working Group which will join forces with interested people or groups, such as the scouts, fishermen and equestrian schools to prepare a development plan for the area. At last week's Athlone Area meeting, Cllr Mark Cooney (FG) wondered was there a delay in developing a playground at Portlick. But he was told by the council that plans for a playground in the area is now part of this new overall improvement proposal for the lakeshore amenity area.  Westmeath County Council will now work with all interested groups to advance this project in consultation with the newly-formed Portlick Working Group and funding agencies such as Fáilte Ireland.
